Respect people and shared spaces
- No bullying, discrimination, harassment, theft, or property damage—in person or online. Respect roommates and shared spaces.
- Do not enter another student’s private room or suite, or bring unauthorized visitors into residences. Socialize in approved common areas.
Evening check-in & quiet hours
Between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., students must remain in their assigned residential building or suite. After staff check-in at 10 p.m., students must return to their own rooms and prepare for bed. Times are local to each campus: Eastern Time at Yale and Columbia; Pacific Time at UC Berkeley.
Observe posted quiet hours and do not leave after check-in without staff permission. Emergency exits are for emergencies only.
Attendance & campus boundaries
- Attend required programming and check-ins. Report illness, emergencies, or an absence to staff promptly.
- Stay within approved boundaries. Independent outings, rideshares, and transport require staff authorization; follow approved departure and handover procedures.
Academic honesty & responsible AI

No alcohol, illicit drugs, unprescribed controlled substances, smoking, tobacco, vaping, gambling, weapons, or fire hazards. This applies throughout the program, including off-campus activities.
Personal boundaries & wellbeing
Sexual activity, harassment, and misconduct are prohibited. Report safety concerns immediately. Follow staff health instructions and agreed medication arrangements.
Devices, photography & privacy
Keep devices focused on learning during sessions. Obtain permission before recording people or program activities. Do not share private information or inappropriate material.
Student agreement
Breaches may lead to guardian notification or dismissal. Review the final AIRES student agreement and campus-specific rules together before arrival.
